Bora downdraft extractors: the facts at a glance

Progress has even reached the kitchen. While the extractor fan, better known as the cooker hood, became established for home use in the 1940s, a new alternative is now available: the downdraft extractor. The Bora brand has revolutionized this product and made it a household name. The idea: an extractor integrated into the cooktop is designed to replace the cooker hood in a space-saving and efficient way.

But what do the Bora downdraft extractors really achieve? We at Westfalia Möbel-Peeck GmbH in Mannheim and Worms are your specialists when it comes to cooktop extractors. Below, we have summarized the most important facts about the Bora models that you can find in our range.

What is a downdraft extractor?

The downdraft extractor, also known as a table extractor or cooktop extractor, is slowly but surely replacing the cooker hood. In contrast to the traditional extractor, cooking vapors are not extracted upwards, but downwards into an extractor integrated into the cooktop. This happens either through a narrow extractor in the middle or on the sides of the hob or through a special cooktop extractor that functions as both a cooktop and an extractor.

While almost all renowned manufacturers have now included their own cooktop vapor extraction systems in their product range, Bora remains arguably the best-known brand of downdraft extractors and has established itself best on the market.

What are the advantages of a downdraft extractor?

The extractor in the cooktop frees up valuable space above it. You can either use this for additional wall cabinets or enjoy an open room and cooking feeling that is no longer disturbed by a bulky cooker hood. The downdraft extractor also enables a variety of new planning possibilities for your kitchen. Kitchen islands look better without an extractor, and even sloping ceilings are no problem for installing a cooktop with a downdraft extractor.

The elimination of the cooker hood also means for you: No sharp corners and edges at head height, no stooped posture, no disturbing steam in your field of vision – simply relaxed cooking.

What distinguishes the Bora models?

Bora currently offers downdraft extractors in three different basic models; another will be added from summer 2019. You can then choose from the following four products:

  • Bora Basic
  • Bora Classic (from spring 2019: Bora Classic 2.0)
  • Bora Professional 2.0
  • Bora Pure (from summer 2019)

While the Basic and Pure models combine the extractor with the central, functional cooktop, the Bora Classic 2.0 and Professional 2.0 are separate downdraft extractors that run in the middle of the cooktop. For each of these products, you can choose from various materials and functionalities in the Bora range.

Bora downdraft extractors are characterized by their efficient, quiet operation – neither steam nor food odors or extraction noise disturb your cooking pleasure. In addition, the downdraft extractors are easy to clean: With the Basic, Classic, and Pure models, you can simply remove the parts and clean them in the dishwasher. Another advantage: With Bora, you get everything from a single source. This applies to the complete extraction system as well as to all accessories.
