The sofa was in the stairwell and wouldn't budge an inch. First floor in Neuenheim, a narrow banister, a landing with two corners. The dimensions of the living room had been correct, but no one had measured the stairwell.
In the end, the sofa went back and the search started all over again. A kitchen stays in a house for many years, a good piece of upholstered furniture often just as long, and before such a purchase, the same question always arises. Where do you go for it, and is the trip out of town worth it?
Furniture store for Heidelberg: what the trip to Käfertal offers
The trip to Käfertal brings you two things at one address: enough selection for a real decision and advice that knows your room before anything is ordered. Our store in Mannheim-Käfertal is located at Turbinenstraße 30-32 and showcases furniture across more than 5,000 square meters of exhibition space. Directly in the adjacent building is the kitchen studio with more than 60 display kitchens, where five kitchen specialists work. The furniture side has its own consulting team.
A screen cannot do two things. A seat depth is decided while sitting, with your back against the backrest and your feet on the floor. And a kitchen front only reveals its true color in daylight, right next to the countertop it is intended to meet.
A family lives in Handschuhsheim who couldn't decide between two front shades for a long time; both were light, both were matte. On the monitor, the two looked identical. In the kitchen studio, the samples were laid next to each other on a countertop, and after ten minutes, it was clear that only the warmer tone suited the oak floor that is staying.
From Heidelberg to Mannheim-Käfertal
The vast majority of customers arrive by car. That has to do with the location. Käfertal is in the north of Mannheim, on the outskirts, and the route there does not lead through the city center. We have sufficient parking spaces available.
From Heidelberg, it is also possible to travel by public transport without changing trains. The tram line 5 connects the Mannheim districts of Käfertal, Quadrate, Neuostheim, and Seckenheim, and continues from there toward Edingen and Heidelberg, in both directions. It makes several stops in Käfertal, including at Käfertal station, Käfertal Süd, and Platz der Freundschaft. By train, the route is via the S-Bahn RheinNeckar; the lines S1 to S4 each run directly between Heidelberg main station and Mannheim main station.
In good weather, you can also cycle. From Heidelberg, a beautiful tour leads along the banks of the Neckar, and in Mannheim, you can continue on the new cycle highway.
Mannheim and Heidelberg are major cities in the same Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region, and the travel between them is part of everyday life for many. A married couple from Schriesheim therefore simply added their planning appointment to a workday, because both of them work in Mannheim anyway. They came in the early evening; on weekdays, the store is open until 7 p.m.
Furniture and kitchen at one address
The furniture store and the kitchen studio are located next to each other in Käfertal, so one afternoon is enough for both. That sounds like a small thing until you've had to coordinate two consultations at two addresses with two delivery dates.
When moving from a rented apartment in Eppelheim to a house in Leimen, it was exactly like that. The kitchen had to be installed before moving in, the living room could wait, but not until winter. Two stores would have meant two consultations, two measurements, and two delivery days, each time with a day of vacation. This way, both orders were in one hand, and the appointments could be aligned.
The display kitchens feature brands such as Nobilia, Schüller, next125, and prisma; for appliances, we carry Siemens, Miele, Bosch, and Blanco, plus Bora for downdraft extractors—cooktops with integrated ventilation. Regarding drinking water systems, many ask for Quooker, though we more frequently sell the Choice system by Blanco. On the furniture side, you will find, among others, ROLF BENZ, brühl, and TEAM 7. Which manufacturers we currently carry is shown in the brand overview, which we update with every change in the assortment.
You can see how the kitchen side is structured in the overview of kitchens from Mannheim and Worms, and for living, sleeping, and dining rooms, there is a separate furniture overview that can be viewed at your leisure before making the trip.
From the first conversation to the measurements
A planning appointment with us begins with your room, long before the first front is discussed. Therefore, we always ask for photos before planning. Crooked floors, old electrical wiring, a water pipe on the wrong wall—all of this is up for discussion earlier on a mobile phone photo than in any description over the phone.
What we see most often at the planning table: people apologize for their photos. Yet the messy pictures are the most useful because they show what really happens in a kitchen, from the coffee machine to the high chair.
The manufacturer-neutral guide from the AMK, the trade association for the kitchen industry, also arrives at the same short list. You need surprisingly little for the first conversation.
- Rough room dimensions and a few photos are enough for the kitchen consultation.
- For furniture, the length, width, and ceiling height of the room are helpful.
- Note the location of windows, doors, radiators, and electrical outlets.
- The width of the stairwell and the apartment door determines whether a sofa can even make it into the living room.
Our consultants usually take the precise measurements on-site themselves. They come to your home with laser measuring devices and also check the supply of water and electrical connections. The consultation itself costs you nothing but time.
A family from Rohrbach came one Saturday without measurements and without photos, just to look. The afternoon was useful nonetheless; afterward, the three knew which fronts they liked and which countertop was out of the question for them. A few weeks later, they returned with photos, and in this second appointment, the planning was created.
What the total price includes
We usually provide a total price for consultation, measurement, delivery, and assembly. Electrical and water connections are included in the kitchen installation. You only need your own tradespeople if pipes need to be moved, and even that is clarified during the measurement.
Assembly is carried out by our own installers, a well-coordinated team.
A simple fitted kitchen usually starts at 5,000 euros with us, as stated in our FAQs on the Peeck website (as of 09/2026). Even in this entry-level class, high-quality hinges and pull-outs, as well as clean assembly by our own team, are included. A 30 to 40 percent deposit is standard for us because every kitchen is ordered as a unique piece for your room.
In the end, more than just the bottom-line figure decides an offer. A slightly lower price does little if there are defects after assembly and no one is reachable anymore. Pay attention to reviews and recommendations, and ask who will ultimately install the kitchen. For furniture, there is a separate seal of quality for this, the Golden M from the German Furniture Quality Association. You can read up on what our price guarantee covers at your leisure before the appointment; it is intended as a safeguard and is discussed last at the planning table.
Arguments against the trip to Käfertal
The trip costs more than an afternoon, and that must be said. A kitchen plan is rarely finished after a single appointment. Weeks lie between the first conversation, the measurement, and the assembly.
Nevertheless, you don't have to get in the car every time for the second and third appointments. Those with a long journey can conduct follow-up appointments with us as an online consultation: a video call where you have your 3D plan on the screen in front of you. Small adjustments are handled there without any travel time.
For a single small piece, it isn't worth it. It makes more sense to buy a side table or a lamp around the corner in Wiesloch, and we say that on the phone as well.
How delivery and assembly work for you depends on your address and should therefore be discussed in the appointment before an order is placed. We close at 6 p.m. on Saturdays and 7 p.m. on weekdays. That is sufficient for an initial walkthrough of the showroom in the evening, but for planning with many open questions, an appointment in the early afternoon is worth it so that no one has to watch the clock.
To get the most out of your on-site visit, check beforehand which exhibition pieces are currently listed, and make a note of two or three of them for your tour.
